Yesterday I was riding the no. 39 bus on my commute from the newsroom in Barracas to home in Palermo.

As usual, we passed by Constitución, a train and bus hub and one of the seediest places in Buenos Aires.

We turned a corner down from the train station and in the twilight I glimpse a man on the corner.

His head is down.

His back bent over.

He struggles to carry a load of wire, rolled and teetering on his back.

It seems precarious there and that he might stumble on the curb.

It was as tall as he was, likely heavy and very unwieldly.

One thought came to mind: That’s life. Así es la vida.
