I bought a small plant at a feria in Palermo on Sunday on my way to a play.
I’ve had African violets, mis niñas, in Houston and a plant that suffered a lot when I was in NYC.
I’m hoping this one survives. I adopted the plant that I was told was the hardiest. (I don’t have much sunlight in my room, and am not blessed with a green thumb, digamos.)
Meet mi niño.
I’m making a little nest in my new apartment on Julián Alvarez.
It’s a cozy little place and I’m rooming with Manuela, from Entre Rios.
I bought a bedspread in Once, a wholesale district near the train station that made me nostalgic for Harwin in Houston. Though after an Argentine friend teased me about buying in Once, I had it cleaned before using it.
Here’s a peek.
I had a lovely time in the Jardín Botánico. It’s three blocks from my new pad, full of young people in love and stray cats hunting down new curious treasures.
I wrote postcards.
Today Francis headed back to LA after a successful internship with Clarín.
She worked in the Ciudad section and published some great pieces, like this one on how tourists get charged higher prices, even though it’s against the law.
I was sad to see her go. But with Silvana, we gave her a final despedida, in Havana with cafe con leché and alfajores! Yum!
I have a new mantra to live by here in Bs As.
It’s courtesy of good friends, like Tracy and Rodrigo.
Embrace the present and live each day as if it were my last in Buenos Aires.
¡A disfrutar a tope!
I only have about two more days in my abode on Billinghurst.
Saturday is moving day into an apartment, with a new roommate, Manuela.
I’m excited about a change. I’m considering it a fresh start.
But I’ll miss my first home in Buenos Aires: the balcony where at night I see the Tres Marías and on sunny afternoons spot Argentines sunning on rooftops across the street. The breeze at night and the streaming sunlight in the morning.
Sigh.
